GARWOOD, J. BRUCE, 82, of Louisville, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2007 at the Episcopal Church Home. A native of Louisville and Jefferson County, Bruce was actively involved in business, civic, and arts organizations. A graduate of the University of Kentucky, and Dartmouth College, he served as president of the Louisville Credit Management Association. Bruce was an active member of Lyndon Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir, served as a deacon, and provided leadership through various committees. He served his community as an active member of the Lyndon Lodge F&AM, the Scottish Rite, Kosair Shrine Temple, the Downtown Rotary Club, and delivered bread for Kentucky Harvest. For over 50 years Bruce sang barbershop harmony with the Thoroughbred Chorus and several quartets. A World War II veteran, Bruce served in the Army Air Corps. Bruce is survived by his wife, Madge; daughters, Rebecca Meichler and Karen Sturm; a son, Michael Garwood (Pam); stepchildren, Merri McDonald, Robert McDonald (Tracy), Christi Moffett (Phillip); brothers, Arthur Ross Garwood, Harold Garwood; sisters, Dorothy Hawkins and Evelyn Finney; and 12 grandchildren. The family thanks all those who cared for him at Belmont Village, the Masonic Home, the Episcopal Church Home, and Hospice. His funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lyndon Baptist Church with burial to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Arch L. Heady Westport Road.
