KENNEDY, ERNEST, 95, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013.
Ernest was born at Depoy, KY, into a large, Irish family of hardworking railroad men. Ernest was a member of Southside Baptist Church, having professed Jesus as his Savior as a young man.
A graduate of Greenville High School, he forfeited a Georgetown College Scholarship to help his family with finances. He was a veteran of European Operations in World War II and an outstanding, career oven-operator at the A&P Bakery.
Ernest is preceded in death by the love of his life, wife Lillian Cummings Kennedy; his parents, Sam and Eva Kennedy; and 17 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by two children, Robert E. Kennedy (Bette) and Ruth Ann Bennett; four grandchildren, Nathan (Ellen), Ben (Teresa), Michael Kennedy and Lura Bennett; and five great-grandchildren, Lydia, Owen, Ash, Rebecca and Abigail Kennedy.
A celebration of his life will be noon Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the O.D. White Funeral Home, 2727 S. 3rd St. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Tuesday.
Special appreciation is extended to the Horizon Bay personnel, Baptist Health staff and the Four Courts personnel for their care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Southside Baptist Church or the Alzheimer's Association .
