Slinker, Herman Wayne,95, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2014 at the home of his daughter in Interlaken, NY.Herman was born on June 17, 1919 on a farm in Little Barren, KY to the late Donald Claude and Audrey (Clark) Slinker. He married his wife of 69 years, Mary Lucy (Sanders) Slinker on January 24, 1939. Herman was a decorated veteran serving in the 770th Field Artillery Battlion in World War II where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Following his Army service Herman settled in Louisville where he was a valued employee of Cooke Pontiac/Cross Motors for over 40 years. He was an avid golfer and a long standing member of Midland Trail Golf Club where he played well into his 90's. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mary Lucy (Sanders) Slinker, a brother, Marvin Slinker, a sister Laverne Curry and a grandson, Blake Holtzman. Herman is survived by a brother, Copley Slinker of Greensburg, KY: two children, Deanna Johnson (Bob Holtzman) of Interlaken, NY and Donald Slinker of Louisville; five grandchildren, Ron Johnson, Jr (Kathleen), Rebecca Johnson (Kathleen Halton), Brian Johnson (Michelle), Molly Young (Greg) and Eddie Slinker; and eight great-grandchildren, Emma and Julia Hughes, Elizabeth Halton, Charlotte and Hunter Johnson, Haley Slinker, Connor and Madelyn Young.A celebration of Herman's life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at noon at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road, Louisville, with visitation prior to the service from 10 a.m. to noon.
