STATEN, MARY M. "MARGIE," 79, passed away September 21, 2010.
She was a former elementary school principal and teacher with 29 years of service as a principal at Slaughter and Johnsontown Road elementaries, a teacher at St. Raphael, St. Paul, Byck and an assistant principal at Young Elementary. She was a member of Jefferson County and Kentucky Retired Teachers Associations and an alumna of Presentation High School, Spalding University and U. of L.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Staten; sons, Mike (Judy) and Greg "Shorty" Staten; daughters, Marta Thomason (Mike), Laurie Shields (Mike), Vickie Staten and Jenny Brown (Ken); brother, Bill Hogan; sisters, Rose Tesi, Patricia McLaughlin, Burdeen Hogan and Kathleen Parker; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral ceremony is Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive, with visitation on Sunday from noon-7 p.m. and after 10:30 a.m. Monday. with entombment in Louisville Memorial Gardens East.
