HEALY, ALBERT GEORGE, 88, of Louisville, passed away on July 16, 2011 at Emeritus-Stonecreek Lodge.
He was born on June 25, 1923 in New York City to his parents Albert Bernard Healy and Edith Williams Healy. Albert was raised in Brooklyn and spent much of his youth at the Polo Grounds, Ebbetts Field, or Yankee Stadium where he developed his life-long love of baseball.
With the onset of World War II, Albert enlisted in the Army Air Forces and was assigned to the 100th Bomber Group of the 8th Air Force. Serving in the European theater, Albert Healy was a radio operator and gunner on the B-17 Flying Fortress bomber, completing 35 missions over occupied Europe. As a technical sergeant he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Forces Oak Leaf Cluster. He also served briefly in the Army Reserves.
Upon return to the states, while in Louisville, he met and married Doris A. Doolittle, his wife of 57 years. Albert retired from the Louisville Works Plant of E. I. du Pont de Nemours after 36 years as a chemical operator and foreman. In retirement, Albert and his wife Doris enjoyed membership in the Doolittle's of America and frequent trips to national family reunions. Family vacations often took them to Southwest Florida and the Great Smoky Mountains. Albert was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church and attended services there for over 45 years. He also served as a deacon in the Presbyterian Church in his younger years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Doris Doolittle Healy.
He is survived by his two children, Mary Candis Crocker and Timothy R. Healy (Natalie); and his sister, Catherine Spalletta of Port St. Lucie, FL. Albert is also survived by his grandchildren, William E. Crocker, John A. Crocker, and Alexandra L. Healy; and two great-grandchildren, William Crocker Jr. and Benjamin Crocker.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 18, 2011 at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway from 2-5 and 6:30-8 p.m. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 9800 Stonestreet Road, with entombment at Louisville Memorial Gardens West following the service.
Expressions of sympathy can be made through donations to the American Heart Association , the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, Hosparus, or the Memorial Fund of Faith Presbyterian Church.
The family members wish to express their appreciation to the staff and residents of Stonecreek Lodge for the care and friendship afforded Mr. Healy over the past seven years.
