Carolyn Frances Owings

Carolyn Frances Owings (nee Sheehan), 84, passed away peacefully and with a blessed heart on December 5, 2023.  She was born July 15, 1939, in Louisville, Kentucky, to James R. and Helen Sheehan.

As the second of seven children she learned from her hard-working parents that a large, loud, loving family was always first.  Her beautiful sisters often came to visit her to bring laughter, love, and Gelato.

Carolyn loved crossword puzzles, was incredibly competitive at Scrabble with anyone who would dare sit at her table.  She created a gracious, welcoming home for her large loving family and friends.

In her long, well-travelled journey she held amazing friendships with many of her childhood friends from Ursaline Academy and her neighborhood.

She loved her time at the beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and travelling wherever the fun and love would take her around the world.

Her quick and clever wit always kept people on their toes and brought laughter to everyone she met.

She was a steady rock based in her Catholic faith which brought her and those she encountered constant encouragement and strength.

She could be seen on bleachers, cross country fields and in theater seats for more than 60 years cheering her children and grandchildren and she loved the creative spirits growing in her great grands.  She was G. G. Ma.  She loved taking her grandkids to the movies, shopping in their favorite shops to find unique treasures, and taking in Broadway shows.  She was Aunt Carol to so many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Survived by a legacy of love through her five children, Kimberly Lopez (Steve Bahrani), Susan Fink, Linda Finney (Donald), Amy Rudy (Lewis), Robert Owings (Michelle); her 13 grandchildren, Joseph Lopez (Amanda), Nathan Lopez (Cara), Kristie Lopez, John Fink (Jacquelyn), Carolyn Banet (Brad), Brittany Akin (John), Christopher Broadus (Taylor), Josh Rudy, Luis Romines, Adam Rudy, Sam Owings, Jacqueline Owings (Reece), and Seth Owings; and her 12 great grandchildren, Olive and Warren Lopez, John and Anthony Patterson, Eli and Grace Banet, Cooper and Tillie Fink, Jack and Logan Akin and Kade and Karson Broadus.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Bob Owings; her grandson, Wyatt Romines; her parents, Raymond and Helen Sheehan; and her sister, Patricia Keenan.

The family is so grateful to the amazing care of the nurses at Baptist East Hospital’s Palliative Care floor and Hosparus Health and so many at the Masonic Home.
