Charles Gaus

Charles E. "Buck" Gaus, 88, passed away peacefully in Louisville, KY on Saturday, April 2, 2016. Born on June 14, 1927, he is preceded in death by his wife of 24 years, Betty Hale, his parents Gottlieb and Alma Fey Gaus, and his sisters Alberta Yurt and Emily Cundiff. Buck is also preceded in death by his companion Mary Canary.
Buck is survived by his loving daughters, Lisa A. Gaus and Donna Grundy (Mark), his beloved grandchildren, Kathyrn and Jack Grundy, and sisters Martha Steenbergen and Evelyn McCreary, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Buck, a first generation American, was born and grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, but over the course of his life lived and made many friends in Brandenburg, Kentucky and Bradenton, Florida. He was a proud Veteran, having served honorably in the Navy during World War II. Buck was a successful builder and real estate developer, who developed subdivisions, and owned and managed rental properties in Southwest Jefferson and Meade counties in Kentucky. During retirement in Bradenton, Florida, Buck owned and managed numerous properties including a small hotel on the bay in the fishing village of Cortez, Florida. Buck was a member of the American Legion Post and Moose Lodges in Brandenburg KY and Bradenton, FL. He was a devout Catholic who gave generously to the Church and various charities over the course of his life. Buck was a very kind and generous man who delighted in helping others and spending time with his beloved daughters and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
