LOWE, CHARLES EDWARD, 77, of Greensboro NC, formerly of Louisville, KY, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2010.
Charles was born Dec. 11, 1932 in Sunny Point, KY, where he attended the one-room school taught by his father, Gifford Lowe. He graduated from Sunfish High School in 1950 and completed a two-year program in junior accounting at the old Spencerian College in downtown Louisville. He went on to complete a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Louisville and afterward worked as the plant controller for Anaconda Aluminum/Atlantic Richfield in both Louisville and Hollywood Florida. Charles enjoyed golf and gardening and was a University of Louisville Cardinals fan.
Charles was a lifelong and active member of the Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and finance chairman, attending churches in Sunny Point, KY, Southside Baptist Church in Louisville, Sheridan Hills in Hollywood, Fl. and lastly Lawndale Baptist in Greensboro, NC.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Gifford and Ora Lowe, and in 1969, by a precious young daughter, Kelly Sue.
Charles was a beloved and exemplary role model for a large and extended family whom he charmed with sage advice and an inexhaustible supply of clean and corny jokes. His influence for good will live on for many generations in those he has left behind who will miss him greatly, his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Betty Sue Doyle; son, Kevin Lowe, his wife Sharon; and their two daughters Tara and Rachel Lowe; three brothers, Richie Howard, Paul Ray, and James Arthur Lowe, and their families; four brothers-in-law, Jack, Rod, George, and David Doyle, and their families.
The funeral service in Greensboro will be 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Lawndale Baptist Church. The funeral service in Louisville will be 11 a.m. on Friday at Southside Baptist Church, 804 Camden Ave., with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. on Thursday evening at Arch L. Heady, 3601 Taylor Blvd.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Southside Baptist Church.
