Charles Ray Pigg Sr.

July 6, 1933 — December 14, 2024

Louisville, KY

Charles Ray Pigg Sr., 91, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024. He was born on July 6, 1933, to John and Lillie Pigg in Louisville, Kentucky.

Charles was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was a gifted athlete, excelling in both football and basketball during his youth. A proud graduate of Fern Creek High School, class of 1951, Charles earned recognition for his athletic prowess on the field and the court. He continued his basketball career at Campbellsville University, eventually graduating from Eastern Kentucky University in 1956.

A dedicated veteran of the United States Air Force, Charles served his country during the Korean War. His commitment to service and honor shaped much of his life, reflecting his strong sense of duty and patriotism. Dedication to his country continued as an Internal Revenue Agent for 33 years.

Charles was an avid University of Kentucky fan, and his witty personality and great sense of humor brought joy to everyone he met. Throughout his life, he selflessly cared for many, but none more so than his beloved wife, Joyce, whom he was married to for 56 wonderful years until her passing in 2016. His devotion to her was a testament to the love and care he gave so freely to those around him.

In his spare time, Charles found joy in simple pleasures—listening to old country, bluegrass, and big band swing music, watching his favorite show Hee-Haw, enjoying John Wayne westerns, and playing golf. His love for life, warmth, and humor made him a treasured friend to all.

Charles will be greatly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Charles is preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Joyce Burns Pigg; father, John Pigg; mother, Lillie Pearl Bibb Pigg; and 3 brothers, Ronald, Donald, and David Pigg.

Left to cherish his memory, Charles is survived by his son, Charles R. Pigg Jr; daughter, Jennifer Maupin (Rob); 3 grandchildren, Brittany Puckett, Halle Unthank, and Cole Unthank; 3 great-grandchildren, Ava, Judah, and Nova; 5 brothers, Marvin Pigg (Christine), James Pigg, Garry Pigg (Barbara), Johnny Pigg, and Steven Pigg; and a host of extended family members and close friends.
