Colleen Beatrice Moore

Colleen Beatrice (Chambers) Moore passed away on November 22, 2023, on her 96th birthday, at the Masonic Home of Kentucky in Louisville.  She spent the first half of her birthday with her grandchildren and the second half with those who preceded her in death; her husband, Otto; and her two sons, Billy and Bobby.

Colleen was born at home in Barren Country Kentucky and spent her childhood in Barren and Monroe counties.  At the age of 16 she drove her entire family cross-country to Holbrook, Arizona, where she lived for a year.  She missed her Kentucky roots and returned to Louisville in 1947, where she has lived since.  

She traveled the country many times over through her journeys to see her family "Out West" and to attend many USS Wharton Naval reunions.  She had friends in every part of the country who she kept in touch with regularly.  She was given the gift of gab, and loved socializing and phone conversations.  Two of her biggest talents were being able to sew like a master seamstress and cook meals that are part of her legacy.  She had a mind like a steel trap, and there was never an anniversary or birthday she forgot.  She also loved her own birthday with great passion, and had to have a giant basket for all of the cards that flooder her house in November and December.

She will be most missed by her grandchildren; Amy Volmer (Tony), Beth Wiedewitsch (Mark), and the "golden child" Stephen Moore (Bobbi), and her honorary grandchild, Marci.  She was GG to her great grandchildren; Ryan, Abi, Lily, Trey, Andrew, Josh and Claire.  She loved so many people we cannot name them all, but especially her nieces and nephews and extended family.  The caregivers at the Masonic Home cannot be thanked enough for their love and support over the last 2.5 years, as they became her family, too.

Her trademark was to fix a hot meal for "company" that came to her house.  When she could no longer cook much, she still treated you to lunch by sending you on your way with a $10 dollar bill and saying, "stop and get yourself some lunch on the way home, I thank you for coming."  In lieu of flowers, please take someone to lunch in her honor, make a donation in her honor, or buy someone a scratch off lottery ticket, she would get great joy from that.

Services honoring Colleen will be at Louisville Memorial Gardens Funeral Homes West, 4400 Dixie Highway, at 1PM on Saturday, December 2, 2023.  Friends may call on the family from 11AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
