Darwin Ray Duff

Duff, Darwin Ray was born in Mount Sterling, Kentucky on December 15, 1933 to Eula and Arthur B. Duff.

Darwin lived his early years in Mt. Sterling surrounded by family and finally settled in Louisville. As he did throughout his life, young Darwin enjoyed tinkering and building things, and dancing. Darwin graduated from Theodore Ahrens Trade High School on June 9, 1953 and started his first job at a woodworking shop after graduation and then went on to work at Louisville Gas and Electric as a meter tester.

In 1955, he was drafted in the United States Army, serving as Private First Class for Company F, Second Battalion, 14th division, where he was deployed to Germany for two years. Upon his return to the states, Darwin returned to work at Louisville Gas and Electric, moving to the underground department where he drafted electric plans and developed cost estimates for new subdivisions and businesses.

During this time, Darwin married Esther Rigsby and together had one daughter, Patricia Carmon. Darwin retired from LG&E in 1999 after 41 years of diligent service. He knew the streets of Louisville like no other, learned in his many years out in the field at LG&E.

Darwin married Delores Zerkel in 2001 and they freely enjoyed life together, traveling and boating, along with their families. After retirement, Darwin could devote more time to his woodworking projects, watching KY basketball, traveling, and boating on Dale Hollow Lake, where he cruised for 50+ years. Thanks to everyone at Dale Hollow for the memories.

Darwin was preceded in death by his mother, Eula Duff (née Payne), father, Arthur B. Duff, his former wife, Esther Rigsby, and son in law, Charles Carmon.
