SPAETH, DAVID HOLLINGSWORTH, 89, of Louisville, KY, went home to be with the Lord December 25, 2013.
Originally from Philadelphia, PA, David was the oldest son of Agnes Hollingsworth Spaeth and Albert David Spaeth. Of his two brothers, Albert E. Spaeth is surviving, Stanley R. Spaeth having predeceased him.
David joined the Army when World War II broke out, leaving his education at Yale University, but returned after the war to eventually receive his doctorate in Agricultural Economics from Michigan State University. His skills in economics and forecasting, as well as his farming experience in Grayson County, KY, were helpful in service to many public and private companies. He retired from Wycliffe Bible Translators at the end of 1999, having served mostly in Papua New Guinea from 1982 -1995.
Survivors include his wife, Carole (nee Putman); three step-daughters, Dona Ferguson, Terri Jarett and Lisa Krystaponis; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators (P. O. Box 628200, Orlando, FL, 32826) or Northside Christian Church, 4407 Charlestown Road, New Albany, IN, 47150 for the ministry of Terry and Amy Ruff in Ghana, W. Africa.
