Geneva Jane Slucher (Maynor), at 94 years of age, gave in to her long struggle with dementia on Tuesday evening, September 25. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Etta Maynor, her beloved husband Charles, and siblings Harry, Jim and Doug Maynor. Survivors include: her three children Richard (Sherry), Gerald (Patty) and Carol; her siblings Joe Maynor and Joyce Fisher (Frank); eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Jane was born on February 14, 1924, in Etowah, TN. Her father worked for L&N Railroad, and in 1936, they all moved to Louisville and settled in the old south end, near L&N's shops and Churchill Downs. Jane married Charles Edward Slucher on October 22, 1942, and together they raised a family, eventually settling in Valley Station. Most weekends of Jane's adult life were spent fishing at Kentucky Lake, and then Lake Cumberland, where she and Charles had a cabin at Lee's Ford. In 1977, Jane and Charles retired to a farm they owned in Kidder, KY, where Charles raised cattle and Jane delighted her family with her wonderful meals. After Charles died in 2001, Jane lived in Kidder alone until the effects of dementia forced her to move back to Louisville, where she lived in assisted care until her passing. She was a towering presence in the family and will be greatly missed by those who loved her.
Visitation will Friday from 2-8 pm and Saturday from 9-11 at Louisville Memorial Gardens West, 4400 Dixie Highway. The funeral service will be at Louisville Memorial Gardens West on Saturday at 11:00 am.
