JONES, DR. GEORGE BOBBY, 67, formerly of Louisville, passed away Friday, April 1, 2011 with his loving wife Barbara and several family members at his side.

He was born October 30, 1943. He was a retired educator, lecturer, and professor at Syracuse University, Marshall University and St. Thomas Aquinas College. He was also a veteran where he served from 1964-1968 in the 416th Bomb Wing 8th Air Force. Bobby was a national member of Phi Kappa Phi, a lifetime honored member of Armadillo Society, graduated Summa Cum Laude B.F.A., M.F.A. 1972-1973, received his Ph.D. in 1989 from Syracuse University. He was honored as Who's Who in International and America Art, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who in Education.

Above all other things Bobby was an artist. He loved to share an unusual sense of style and depth in knowledge of all things artistic. In this passion Bobby was accomplished and well documented in his pursuits. Bobby's art brought him a well rounded and well traveled lifestyle. His work has been displayed in various galleries throughout the states and abroad. In the final years of his life he enjoyed traveling with Barbara.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Howard Jones and Dorothy Marie Jones Smith; and son, Dylan George Jones.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ruth Ackerman Jones; son, Ian Mallachy Jones; daughters, Rebecca Jonell Jones Feeny, Kimberly Michelle Jones, and Mary Robyn Jones-Headly; brothers, Frederick Howard Jones, Charles Lloyd Jones, Phillip Edward Smith, Timothy John Smith, and Theodore "Teddy" Jones; sisters, Shirley Ann Jones, Barbara Ann Jones, and Joetta Jones; and two grandchildren, Connor Ronald Feeny and Brennan George Feeny.

His funeral service will be at 1:33 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens West Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Highlands.
