Harry Walter Maynor Share E-mail Visit Guest Book MAYNOR, HARRY WALTER, 84, died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital.
He was born May 22, 1925 in Etowah, TN. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he served in 28 missions over Germany as a third turret gunner on B-17G Flying Fortresses with the 773rd Squadron, 463rd Bomb Group, 15th Air Force.
In 1950, he attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Louisville. Following graduation, he worked as a research chemist for several Louisville area companies, including National Distilleries, Girdler Catalysts, and Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp. He retired in 1990 after 28 years with Brown & Williamson's Research Dept. An avid golfer since his college years, he also enjoyed hiking the Appalachian Trail, and was a devoted U of L basketball and football fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Etta Maynor.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Leah Burgin Maynor; two sons, Dr. Michael Maynor and Gregory Maynor (Tracey); two grandchildren, JonLuc and Rose Maynor; two sisters, Jane Slucher and Joyce Fisher (Frank); and three brothers, Joe, Jim (Alma) and Doug (Kay).
Funeral service will be noon Saturday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway, with burial to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens, West. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
