Shartzer, Staff Sgt. Hayward Bennett View/Sign Guest Book SHARTZER, STAFF SGT. HAYWARD BENNETT, 82, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Norton Audubon Hospital. He was born February 15, 1926, a son of the late Frank and Eva Green Shartzer. He was a retired traffic manager from Henry Vogt Machine Company, a World War II Army Corps Radio Operator on a B-29, a former Doss High School sports announcer and 2008 inductee into the Doss Hall of Fame, a former Beechmont Youth Sports Board member and manager and a member of Lynnhurst United Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Mary Thomas Hack. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth (Knies) Shartzer; three sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Kristy Shartzer, Stephen and Sally Shartzer and Kevin and Leigh Shartzer; seven grandchildren, Bryan (Brianne), Sarah, Kent (Allie), Adam, Cynthia, Meagan and Susan; one great-grandson, Cole; and brother, Philip Shartzer (Judy) and sister, Mildred Roberts (Tom). A service to celebrate his life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway, with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be held noon - 8 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of service. The family requests memorials be made to Pulmonary Rehab at Sts.
