Herman Barnett

Barnett, Herman Charles View/Sign Guest Book BARNETT, HERMAN CHARLES, 88, left this mortal life to join his Savior and family on April 1, 2009. He passed peacefully in Bardstown, KY with his children and grandchildren by his side. Herman was born January 11, 1921 in Sawyer, McCreary, KY to Charles Everett and Mildred Anna Thomas Barnett. He grew up in Danville, KY. He answered his country's call and joined the Army in 1942 and served faithfully in the European Theater, Battle of Anzio, Italy and liberated Dachau Concentration Camp. He received the Bronze Star for his service. Following the war he met Evelyn Baker and married her on November 9, 2009 in Danville, KY. The family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1959 and were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on July 14, 1963 for time and all eternity. He was an Elder in the church and served faithfully all his life. Herman worked for the Kroger Company and retired with 35 years of service. He loved his family, old time country and bluegrass music. He had a personal friendship with Wade and Julia Mainer of the Mainer Mountaineers. His hobbies included model railroads and cars. He loved traveling and was a student of history. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn; his brother, Howard Barnett; and sister, Hazel Ann Wooten. He is survived by his daughters, Jeanie Smith (Keith), Beverly Reynolds (Steven) and Debbie Liebegott (Junie); seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Rachel Walls; brothers, Harold "Happy," Homer and Harlan. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Lillian "Sis" Baker. Herman will be dearly missed by his many friends and others who cared for him in his later years. Funeral service will be held noon Saturday at Schoppenhorst Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home, with interment in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Friends may pay their respects from 1-8 p.m. Friday at Schoppenhorst.
