Homer Cole

August 13, 1928 — October 9, 2021

Louisville

Homer Cole, 93, loving husband of Wanda, went home to be with his Savior on October 9th 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 13th 1928 in Louisville Kentucky. He was the son of late Homer Cole and Gussie Denham. He was a proud United States Navy Veteran. He started his professional career at Philip Morris as a tray hanger and moved to a machine operator. Then, being an advocate for his fellow workers, he started working as a Union organizer. He spent years fighting for the working rights of the common laborer and was then elected into the International Union as International Secretary Treasurer, picking up his family and moving to Washington D.C. After seven years, he wanted to come back home to Kentucky to eventually retire, which he did in 1985.

Homer enjoyed traveling with his wife, especially on long road trips out West. He loved spending time taking fishing trips with his kids and grandkids to the North Carolina coast or fishing at the lake at their Bardstown home.  He would never miss the chance to hit big on the slots in any casino he came across. He was a born entertainer and never missed the chance to pick up his guitar and sing a tune, especially an old hymn or one of his own songs.

The loving family he leaves behind includes his devoted wife of 63 years Wanda, daughter Sharon (Mickey), and sons Steve (Karen), Greg (Shelia) and Andy (Tracy). Grandchildren Dana (Jay), Michael (Karen), Jamie (Tony), Glen (Darlene), Stacey (Brian), Ryan, Patrick (Alie), Whitney (Greg), Sarah (Eric), Travis, Lucas, and Andrew. Great- grandchildren Tyler, Hannah, Grayce, Julia, Nicholas, Chase, Max, Eleanor, Henry and one more on the way.

His legacy will certainly live forever in the music and stories he leaves behind for us all.
