PHILLIPS, HOWARD J., 95, of Louisville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 27, 2012.
He was born in Louisville on August 18, 1917. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orie and Maud Wood Phillips; three brothers,; three sisters and a grandson, Dan Phillips. Howard graduated from Fairdale High School and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a mechanic and flight engineer on B-17, B-29 and C-97 aircraft. He had a life long love for airplanes.
He worked for LG&E for 35 years at various positions ending his career as supervisor of gas inspection. He was a long time member and deacon of Hazelwood Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mabel McCarty Phillips; daughters, Sandy Hart (Lawson), of Lake St. Louis, MO, Diane Greene (Robert), of Ooltewah, TN, Fran Cosby (Larry), of Columbus, GA and Betty Korns (Dennis), of McDonough, GA; sons, Charles Phillips (Andrea), of Corydon, IN, Edward Phillips (Patricia), of O'Fallon, MO and Mark Thomas Phillips ,of Louisville; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He will be missed by many who knew and loved his wonderful sense of humor and honesty. He dearly loved God, his family and his country.
Funeral service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Nunnelley Funeral Home, 4327 Taylor Blvd. with burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation: 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
