James Russell Carter Share E-mail Visit Guest Book CARTER, JAMES RUSSELL, 86, of Louisville, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2010.
Born September 4, 1923 in Hemingford, NE, he moved to Nyssa, Oregon until he joined the Army.
He retired after 23 years from the US Army as sergeant major (E-9) and retired after 27 years from the old Jaggers Equipment Company, Louisville, as chairman of the board and chief executive officer. He was an active member of PRP United Methodist Church for 44 years. He was a member of American Legion post 229, life member of DAV Kentucky Chapter 6, life member of Daniel Boone Chapter of the Retired Sergeants Major and Chiefs Association, and a Kentucky Colonel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Earl Carter and Hazel Fren Carter Tyler; his sisters, Delores Slaughter and Arlene Huffman; and brother, Robert Krul.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Wanda Mumford Carter; children, Candace Pedigo (Don), Kevin Carter (Sherry), Cheryl Parr (Bob), Kimberly Carter and Keith Carter (Laura); grandchildren, Jennifer Pedigo Mattingly (Eli) and Russell Early; great-grandchildren, Dalton and Ashley Mattingly; and his nieces and nephews in Oregon and Idaho, especially Alicia, Brent and Pam.
His funeral service will be held at noon Saturday at Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Hwy., followed by burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation
