VERNON, JERRY P., 66, of Louisville, passed away at Baptist Hospital East surrounded by his family and friends on the evening of December 31, 2011, after a courageous three year battle with cancer.
He had a 42 year career at Rohm + Haas of Louisville. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, metal detecting and was an avid University of Louisville fan.
He was preceded in death by his father, H.C. Vernon, and is survived by his wife and caregiver of 48 wonderful years, Peggy (Sucher) Vernon; mother, Elizabeth Vernon; children, Mike Vernon (Debbie) and Kim Shepard; brother, Jim (Nancy); grandchildren, Christopher Vernon and Addison, Dalton and Emma Shepard; and several nieces and nephews. Jerry had a circle of friends and neighbors who sustained him and his family during his illness that they would like to thank.
His funeral will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Joseph E. Ratterman & Son Funeral Home, 7336 Southside Dr., with burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens - West. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Rattermans.
Expressions of sympathy in Jerry's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society .
