Jesse Burkhead
March 3, 1919 — April 8, 2010
BURKHEAD, CPO (RET.) JESSE L., 91, of Louisville, returned to his heavenly father Thursday April 8, 2010 at Baptist Hospital East with his loving family by his side.
He was a native of Limp, KY, U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer and a World War II and Korean War veteran with 30 years of service. He was also retired from Kentucky State Government, was a Kentucky Colonel, a volunteer at Meadowview Nursing Care and Rehabilitation and a member of Lyndon Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jerry L. Whitley.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Dorothy Burkhead; sons, Terry R. Burkhead, Gary W. Burkhead (Terry Patrick); daughter, Barbara Burkhead Whitley; grandson, Michael Whitley; great-granddaughter, Madelyn Whitley; sisters, Gertrude Ashlock and Frances Miller; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2010 at Pearson Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road, with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 2010. Visitation will conclude with a U.S. Navy Bell service.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Lyndon Baptist Church.
