BIESEL, JOSEPH ANDREW, 71, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2011.
He was an architect by profession and was recently recognized by HUD for quality housing groundwork in the State of Kentucky. His accomplishments also include graphic design, photographer and artist for his wife's business Party Kits & Equestrian Gifts. He graduated from The Kentucky Military Institute in 1956, The Hill School in 1957 and the University of Kentucky in 1965. In service to his country, he was an artillery officer in the U.S. Army for six years. He was a private pilot, achieved the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America, was a member of the Architects of America, started the Main Street Association, Wings of the World Program and taught at many art camps for underprivileged children. He touched the lives of many through his hobbies which included aviation, ice skating, volunteer work for the Boy Scouts, and set design for Mummers & Minstrels in Anchorage and Iroquois Park.
Andy is the son of the late Erma Biesel Dick, Proprietor of the Old House Restaurant in Louisville.
He is survived by his wife of 50 glorious years, Rebecca Helm "Becky:" two sons, Van Bryan (Jean Welsh) of Atlanta, GA and Stuart of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; daughter, Holly Ward (Randall) of Columbus, IN; and six grandchildren, Carson, Sam, Greta, Stella, Ellie and Anna.
Funeral service is 10 a.m. Monday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 2233 Woodbourne Ave., with interment to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Visitation is 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane.
