GIBERSON, JOHN, 87, passed away on Monday, June 09, 2014. John was born March 31, 1927 in Cleveland, OH.
He was a retired staff sergeant and tank commander, serving over 20 years in the United States Army, and was honorably discharged from Co. B, 2nd Battalion, and 1st Brigade USATC Armor Division. He was awarded several medals and commendations including the World War II Victory Medal, The Army Occupation Medal (Japan), the Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. Upon his discharge he returned to his family in Louisville and was employed by Brown & Williamson Tobacco until his retirement.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Laura Jean (Stinson) Giberson.
He is survived by his sons Stephen M. Giberson and John A. Giberson (Jeanne). He was blessed by three grandchildren, Stephanie Vaught, Kelly Giberson (Phil Eason) and Shaun Giberson (Lindsey Lightle); five great-grandchildren, Evan, Aden, Canaan, Shaun Jr. and Brantley; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
John loved to tell stories about the many adventures and misadventures he has experienced. He also enjoyed spending time at Rough River Lake with his friends and family and was the life of the party. John will be sadly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Johns' funeral service will be held noon Thursday at Joseph E. Ratterman & Son Funeral Home, 7336 Southside Dr., with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens-West. Visitation: 2-8 pm Wednesday at Rattermans.
