LEAR, JOHN ROSS "BIG JOHN," 64, of Louisville, passed away Thursday May 13, 2010 at Veterans Medical Center.
A native of Cumberland, MD, he chose to make Louisville his home after his military service. John enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served with distinction during the Vietnam War, having been awarded the Bronze Star for valor as well as a Purple Heart.
A long time employee of Ford at the KY Truck Plant, John settled into life as a long distance truck driver after adventures abroad with his brother.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ada Lee Phelps and John L. Lear; his wife, the former Chloe Dunavan; and brother, George Lear.
He is survived by his brother, Leo Lear (Laura); daughters, Audrey Leigh Lear-Poppe (Robert), Karen Stotts (Ed); grandchildren, Austin and J.T. Poppe, Nathan, Katie and Ben Stotts. He also leaves to grieve, life long friends, Don and Marcella Groah and nieces and nephew, Maureen, Ada and Leo Lear, his constant dinner companions.
His service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2010 at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
