Leona Elizabeth Roney Share E-mail Visit Guest Book RONEY, LEONA ELIZABETH, 98, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2009 at the Masonic Home of KY.
She was looking forward to reuniting with her five brothers, mother and dad. What a glorious family reunion she is having.
She was the former Leona Trautwein, retired Civil Service having worked at the Post Office, Veterans Hospital and later 19 years for Dr. Laman Gray at the University of Louisville. She was a member of the Louisville Hiking club, and played the organ and piano to the delight of family, friends and church members. For many years, she would comfort those at various nursing homes with her music. Until her passing, she was the organist for Masonic Home church services and funerals. She loved to entertain whether it was for the Prime Time Seniors, Young at Heart, XYZers or just to tell a joke or two. You could say she lit up a room with her presence.
Everyone wanted to sit next to Aunt Leona. She belonged to St. Andrews United Church of Christ.
She is survived by nieces and nephews and her second families that knew her as grandma or mom. The family of Ms. Roney would like to thank those individuals at the Masonic Home for all their loving care that they provided during her stay.
Visitation will be in the Chapel at Masonic Home of KY, 3701 Frankfort Avenue on Thursday, September 3rd, after 10 a.m. followed by the funeral service at noon. Burial will be at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
Memorial gifts may be made to the building fund of St. Andrews United Church of Christ, 2608 Browns Lane.
O. D. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2727 S. Third Street, are in charge of arrangements.
