LEWIS, RICHARD DENVER, 74, died Monday, December 29, 2008 after a long battle with cancer. Richard was born in Downers Grove, IL and spent his youth in the Chicago area. He graduated from Miami University in Oxford, OH, where he met his wife, Kathryn. Returning to the Chicago area, he worked in marketing research for 10 years at Quaker Oats, before moving to New York, taking a job with General Foods. A resident of Louisville for 40 years, he worked in marketing research at Brown and Williamson Tobacco and finished his career in the insurance division at Humana. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Ron Grasch; and grandsons, Sgt. Mason Lee Lewis and Ryan Lewis. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Kemp Lewis, to whom he was married for 54 years; daughter, Janice L. Grasch; sons, Jeffrey (Lisa), Jonathan (life partner, Daniel Ware) and Gregory (Nancy). Richard is also survived by six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Ashleigh, Whitney, Ridgely, Lauren and Austin; four great grandchildren, Chase, Lucy, Collin and Jacob; sister, JoAnn Mathiesen; and brother, Eugene M. Lewis; as well as three nieces; and many cousins. His daughter-in-law, Nancy Lewis, will conduct a memorial service 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in his memory to the J. Graham Brown Cancer Center.
