HARTWEIN, LOUIS R., 88, of Louisville passed from this life on Friday May 31, 2013 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center.
He was a native of St. Louis, MO., a retired employee of the old Rohm & Haas Co., a faithful follower of Christ at St. James Church where he enjoyed singing tenor in the Chancel Choir for 65+ years, and a Navy veteran of World War II. Upon his discharge from the military Louis joined his family in Louisville, where he met and married Anita Pfenninger, the love of his life for the next 56+ years until her passing in 2004.
His sister Margie Pfenninger also preceded him in death.
Besides his love of singing in the choir, Louis also loved watercolor painting and gardening.
He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Pielemeier; sons, David Hartwein (Marsha) and Tom Hartwein (Julie); brother, Bill Hartwein (Bonnie), sister Becky Bryce (Lynn); grandchildren, Jennifer Pielemeier and Beth Crosby (Phil); and great grandchildren, Morgan and Brantly.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the palliative care team at the VA Hospital. A service to celebrate Mr. Hartwein's life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Church, 3535 Taylor Blvd. Interment will follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be at the Southern Home of Arch L. Heady & Son, 3601 Taylor Blvd., from 2-8 p.m. Monday and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
