McCARTY, MELVIN H., 96, went to Our Heavenly Father's open arms on April 2, 2013.
Melvin proudly served in the military during World War II and was a member of the 384th Bomb Group in the Army Air Force. He actively belonged to Christian Assembly Church.
Preceding him in death was his loving wife of nearly 51 years, the former Genell Thomas; his infant son, Edwin McCarty; his sisters, Jesteen Anderson and Coreen Wimpy; a brother, Roy McCarty; and a brother that passed away in infancy.
Melvin is survived by his son, Tom McCarty (Peggy); four daughters, Penny Morris, Tudie Leis (Fred), Cheryl Morris (Jim) and Lynett Egge; a brother, Herbert McCarty; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, 3800 Bardstown Road where visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
