Michael “Willie” A. Wilson passed away on December 16th, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 34 years, Cheri, son, Joshua (Maddie), his sister, Kim Walton, brother, Eric (Sissy), several nieces and nephews, and one grandpup, Nya.
Willie spent his life as a union carpenter. He had a meticulous work ethic. He was referred to as ‘Mad Mike’ by his colleagues; he was a perfectionist who expected the same from others.
He worked on countless projects throughout the city of Louisville and the region, including the renovation of Churchill Downs where a time capsule was placed in the new Twin Spires. He was proud of the project as he followed horse racing closely through life.
He was born, raised and lived in the city of Shively.
An avid University of Kentucky basketball and football fan. He followed the Cats closely through his life, and could recite statistics and players from several generations.
He and his wife spent the summers camping at Dog Creek at Nolin River Lake. They have a countless number of friends throughout the years from the campground.
A typically quiet man, with his many ‘Willie-isms.’ He was an observer, a watcher and ponderer; always aware of his surroundings. His most common phrase, in a deep baritone with a slight country drawl, “Whatever.” He always had a comeback to any jokes that could be made, a skill he passed on to his son.
His funeral will be held at Louisville Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, December 27th at 10 a.m. Public visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 22nd.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Hosparus of Louisville.
