Michiko Downs, 95 passed away Sunday November 16, 2014 at the Eastern Star Home.
She was born in Sacramento, Ca. on October 7, 1919.
Michiko was preceded in death by her parents and her son.
In 1927 she went to Japan and furthered her education to become a school teacher and spent many years teaching there and then later in China in 1944 during the war. While in China she married and had a son. After the war she returned to Japan where she had a daughter. In 1954, she returned to the United States and has lived in Louisville since that time.
She worked as a manager on the loading dock for Frito Lay's Louisville Distribution Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Junko Manaka (Hiroshi) with grandchildren; Satoko, Shunsuke, and Ryusuke along with 3 great-grandchildren and her 2 sisters; Kiyoko Ueno and Shizako Satomi and her brother; Sadaichi Inouye. She will also be greatly missed by her companion and caretaker, Teresa Stiles.
Michiko's family is extremely appreciative of the quality of life care given to her by the Eastern Star Home staff and would like to thank them for their help and loving care.
