FLEMING, MURIEL SHELTON, 86, of Louisville passed away on August 6, 2011 at Springhurst Pines.
She was born in Quality, KY, and moved to Louisville as a child. Muriel was a graduate of Louisville Girls (Atherton) High School, the University of Louisville and the Art Center.
She was a retired teacher with the Jefferson County Public Schools, where she taught art at Pleasure Ridge Park and Fairdale high schools. She was a longtime resident of Fairdale, KY, and a member of Fairdale Christian Church.
Muriel was preceded in death by her five siblings; sister, Mildred Sullivan; and brothers Harold, Neil, William and Lonas Shelton.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert O. "Bob" Fleming; her two sons, Darrell Fleming (Ann) and Forrest D. Fleming (Diana Shoup); four grandchildren, Dana Gootee (Aaron), Adam Schellenberger (Nicole), Emily Harris (Matthew, and Forrest S. Fleming; and one great-grandson, Edward Schellenberger.
All her life Muriel was devoted to artistics projects, especially crafts in her later years. She collected hummingbird items and Nativity displays.
A service to Celebrate Muriel's life will be held at noon Tuesday, in the chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Road, with a committal service at 2 p.m. at Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday and after 10 a.m. Tuesday Expressions are requested to your favorite charity.
