HOLLOWAY, NELDA B. (CHAPMAN), 85, went to be with the Lord on April 30, 2013. Born in Tompkinsville, KY, on November 13, 1927 she grew up with four brothers and two sisters.

Her mother, Bircha (Strode) Chapman and father, Isaac Chapman both preceded her in death; as did her brothers, Fred, Charles, Med and Hascal; and one sister, Ada Mae Chapman.

Nelda is survived by one loving sister, Wanda Witty; and one sister-in-law, Laverne Frazier. Her extended family loved her very much and she has several nieces and nephews remaining who kept her close and brought her great joy, especially in the last few years.

Nelda married William (Bill) Holloway on October 31, 1944 and they dedicated themselves to one another for over 68 years. Her beloved husband survives and mourns her passing. Their union produced two children, Roger and Rowena, who cherished Nelda as a dedicated, loving mother.

Also surviving are two grandchildren, Tina (Walter) Watley and Christopher Holloway and one great grandson, Levi Watley, who were the joy of her life and shared many cherished memories with her. Roger and his loving wife of 47 years, Brenda and their family all live in Vernon, AL. Rowena Holloway lives in Washington County, KY, and has a host of long time friends that surround and support her. Her coworkers have also been very supportive during this difficult time. Virginia Moore, although not officially adopted, is a daughter at heart and continues to support William during this loss.

Nelda was a homemaker and devoted mother for much of her life, and was a member of the Eastern Star, worked at Reynolds Aluminum and Fetter printing company. She volunteered as an auxiliary aid at Baptist hospital and taught the Girls Auxiliary at Auburndale Baptist Church where she has been a member for 57 years. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Union, quilted all her life, volunteered for meals on wheels and other community activities, including sewing lap blankets for nursing home patients for many years.

Nelda loved the Lord, her family, and the flowers and garden she tended at her home. She was close to God when she worked in her flowers. She also collected rocks from places she visited and family brought them to her from trips taken. Now they grace the yard of the home she loving shared with William and bring back cherished memories to the family.

During her last months she touched many of the wonderful people who cared for her, and the family is grateful for their compassion. Now she goes to prepare a place for William and the rest of her family, where they will all meet again one day.

Visitation will be held at the Arch L. Heady & Son funeral home on Taylor Blvd., on Thursday evening, May 2, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday morning, May 3, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The celebration service will be held at 1 p.m. with internment at Louisville Memorial Gardens West, following the service.

In lieu of flowers please send memorial donations to Hosparus of Louisville, or to Auburndale Baptist Church, 5590 Bruce Avenue Louisville, KY, 40214, in her memory.
