RIGGS, NORMAN J., 90, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Georgetown Manor Nursing Home.
Norman was born December 3, 1921 in Louisville, to Willie Green and Hazel (Knowerr) Riggs.
He retired from Philip Morris Corp. in 1976, after 28 years of service. He entered the US Army infantry August 6, 1942 and was stationed in Germany with the 95th Division, where he was wounded in action on December 10, 1944, and awarded the Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 58 years, Mary (Nevitt) Riggs; stepson, Charles Robert Crowley; a brother and a sister.
Survivors include his son, David N. Riggs (Esther); stepdaughter, Mary Catherine (Crowley) Tucker; daughter-in-law, Pat Crowley; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mary Queen of Peace, St. Denis Campus, 4205 Cane Run Road. Entombment will follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens West Mausoleum. Visitation will be Monday, 2 - 8 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy.
