FRENCH, RICHARD JACOB, 101, of Louisville passed away April 16, 2014 at Treyton Oak Towers. He was born March 2, 1913 in the Portland neighborhood of Louisville, to the late Jacob French and Irene Monroe French. He was preceded in death by his wife Louise James French and his brother Bob French. He grew up in the Portland neighborhood where his mother had a dry goods store on the corner of 24th and Portland streets. He treasured his Portland memories and enjoyed visiting his old neighborhood. His first job was as a mechanic for the Yellow Cab Company. He left that employment after 13 years and started a grocery store at Cane Run Road and Linwood Avenue. He next became involved with leasing commercial and residential properties. Richard and his wife Louise enjoyed arts and crafts and shared their creations with friends and family. He loved music and had an extensive music collection. He is survived by five nieces and nephews. Mr. French spent the last nine years of his life at Treyton Oak Towers. His family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the Treyton Oak staff for the wonderful care and kindness they gave him. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Ratterman Grand Chapels, 4832 Cane Run Road and will be followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may go to the Crusade for Children.
