Fleming, Robert Owen "Bob",90 of Louisville passed away on October 4, 2014 at Jefferson Manor. He was a graduate of Greenville High School in Greenville, KY and the Art Center in Louisville. Robert was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army Air Corps in the European theater. He was an illustrator and worked for over 27 years in the civil service at Fort Knox, KY. Robert was born on August 14, 1924 in Powderly, KY and moved to Louisville following his military service. He was a longtime resident of Fairdale, KY and a member of Fairdale Christian Church. He is survived by his two sons, Darrell Fleming (Ann) and Forrest D. Fleming (Diana Shoup); four grandchildren, Dana Gootee (Aaron), Adam Schellenberger (Nicole), Emily Harris (Matthew), and Forrest S. Fleming (Anita); two great-grandchildren, Edward Schellenberger and Sophia Harris; and one sister, Doris Nixon. Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Muriel Shelton Fleming; his parents, James G. and Willie V. Fleming; as well as 10 siblings, Garst Fleming, Ethel Morrisey, Eva Garrett, James Duward Fleming, Gilbert Fleming, Carl Fleming, Norval Fleming, William Cecil Fleming, Talmadge Fleming and Thelma Grider.Throughout his life Robert was devoted to the service of his Lord and the church serving at Shively, South Jefferson and Fairdale Christian Churches. He was also an avid fisherman, and a devoted husband and father.A service to celebrate Robert's life will be conducted at noon Tuesday in the chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Road with a committal service at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
