Ronald Alan Ferriell born July 27, 1956 received his final call to the post on August 4, 2013.
Ronnie is survived by his loving wife Peggy Ferriell, his father and step-mother Bob and Eva Ferriell; three children; Kevin Ferriell, Leslie Ferriell, and Carrie Welch; step-daughters Nancy Voils and Jennifer Funk; in-laws Joe and Nancy Campbell; eight grandchildren; Lori, Alyssa, Brenden, Justice, Alex, Austin, David, and Ella; two sisters Jan Ferriell and Julie Safley (Tim); brother Michael Ferriell (Cindy) and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Ruth Morris.
Ronnie, the oldest of four, was born and raised in south Louisville, KY on Kenwood Hill. He grew up participating in Beechmont and Cabbage Patch sports, was a member of South Park Country Park and attended Iroquois High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He was employed by Howard Ferriell and Sons and FASCO Construction of Florida.
Ronnie enjoyed life to the fullest in all his endeavors. He was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. His smile always lit up a room, and his sense of humor and laugh were infectious. He always put others first and had kind words to say about everyone. Ronnie's favorite past times were enjoying a day at Churchill Downs with friends and family watching the thoroughbreds race; all U of L sports and spending time with his grandchildren.
His greatest accomplishment was his choice to join his second family, Alcoholics Anonymous. This family provided Ronnie a second chance at life and allowed so many others to witness his special qualities and gifts. He has touched and aided many others on their path to recovery. The lives Ronnie has impacted in his years of sobriety will far exceed the lives most of us will touch in a lifetime. Ronnie will be missed by all. We wish to thank all his doctors and nurses at Hosparus.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Alcoholics Anonymous, 332 W Broadway, Louisville, KY or Hosparus.
