Roy Gividen

Gividen, Roy William View/Sign Guest Book GIVIDEN, ROY WILLIAM, 87, of Louisville, was born April 1, 1921 to the late Roy Palmer and Elmira Gilmore Gividen in New Castle, KY, and returned peacefully to his Heavenly Father January 22, 2009. Mr. Gividen was a retired machinist with Reynolds Metal after serving 28 years of faithful service, also an accomplished carpenter who built homes in Louisville's south end in the 1950's and 60's. Roy was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was also a master bowhunter and instructor being a founding member of the Wilderness Bowhunters of Kentucky, United Bowhunters of Kentucky, and an active participant in many bowhunter clubs and associations. Roy was known as the Silent Hunter winning many ribbons in the Bluegrass State games. Among those who preceded him in death include his parents; son, Lewis "Butch" Gividen; sister, Dorothy Herren; and brother, John Gividen. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Mary Gladys Graves Gividen; children, Dorothy Ann Day, Roy Alan, Paul Edward, Thomas Arthur and Helen Shelon Gividen; sister, Eloise Geesaman; grandchildren, John Copeland Jr., Will Copeland, Suzanne Horton, Tammy McCollum, Elizabeth Gividen, Brandy Andrade, Apryl Hall, Eric Gividen and Miranda Miller; many great-grand-children; and a host of other family and friends. The mass celebrating his life will be held 10 a.m. Monday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 1925 Lewiston Drive, with interment in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Friends may pay their respects 1-8 p.m. Saturday at Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Road). The family expresses their deepest appreciation to the staff of Summerfield Health and Rehabilitation Center, who cared for him lovingly in his final weeks. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hosparus or the Disabled American Veterans.
