THOMPSON, ROY, 95, of Louisville passed from this life on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Summerfield Manor.

Roy was a native of Breckinridge County KY, and was a member of Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church, and a 32nd degree mason. Roy served time with the Civilian Conservation Corps, the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps, during World War II.

After retiring from duPont, Roy took up running and co-founded the Iroquois Hill Runners. He ran around the park several times each day. Roy traveled the country trying to catch the "Biggest Bass In The World." He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Haynes Thompson.

He is survived by his children, Dorothy Craven (Frankie), Patsy Schladand (Charlie) and Michael Thompson (Cindy Scherer); grandchildren, Brad Craven, Pam Craven Steen, John Burr, Julie Burr Cox and Dana Thompson; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Mr. Thompson's life will be held noon Tuesday at the Southern Home of Arch L. Heady & Son, 3601 Taylor Blvd. with entombment to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens West Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Monday.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer's Association .
