SIMMONS, RUBY VIOLA (NEEDY), 96, of Louisville, born in Shippingport, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Summerfield Health and Rehab Center with her family by her side.
She was preceded in death by husband, Hughie Simmons; her four siblings; and one grandson, Brian Hughie Simmons.
Ruby was a member of Louisville Baptist Temple and a member of the Eastern Star. She was an Elvis Presley fan and loved her Louisville Cardinals. She never missed a TV basketball game. She loved going out with her daughters for lunch and shopping, but most of all she loved having her family around her for birthdays and special celebrations. Her happiest times were spent with them. She loved sharing her baking with her friends and fellow volunteers at the former Briarwood Nursing Home. Ruby loved her large family and friends and that love was very much returned.
She is survived by her seven children, Hughie Simmons Jr. (Erika) of Forest Lake, MN, Georgia McDaniel (Richard), Joyce Caswell (John), Claudette Casey, Tressa Wright (Ronald), Denise Sexton (Rick), all of Louisville and Teresa Solomon (Bill) of Crestwood; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren (and one on the way); and 21 great-great grandchildren. And a special thanks to Dr. Jane Cornett for her compassionate care.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Simmons' life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Southern Home of Arch L. Heady & Son, 3601 Taylor Blvd., with interment to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Online condolences to www.archlheadysouthernfh.com.
