Sarah Emily Thompson, 93, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024, in Tampa, Florida. She was born on August 12, 1931, to Logan and Rose Mae "Back" Marshall in Jackson, Kentucky. Born and raised in the mountains of eastern Kentucky, Sarah enjoyed the laidback lifestyle. She lost her mother at the young age of 14, and was a dedicated sister helping raise her siblings while her dad worked. Sarah was the only one out of her eight siblings that graduated high school. Following high school, she went on to be a veteran of the United States Army, and a dedicated civil servant at Fort Knox where she spent 30+ years as a dental assistant. She met her future husband, Robert V. Thompson, who worked at Fort Knox as well. They were married 53 years. She and her husband raised their two boys in Valley Station, Kentucky, among other Army vets living there as well. They lived in Valley Station for 47 years.
Sarah’s main objective was to see her husband and her two sons to find Christ, which they did in the Fall of 1980. She loved the Lord and enjoyed being at church praising and learning more about God. Her favorite night going to church was Wednesday night Bible; she said it reminded her going to Sunday school. Sarah would often have conversations with Becky about what it will look like when we see Christ and what heaven would look like. She’s experiencing what it looks and feels like in the presence of our Savior. Sarah lived a legacy of 93 years and got her wish to be with Christ for eternity. She would want us to be happy and not sad. We don’t “move on,” we move forward and honor the past while building a future is how she would want us to feel. Sarah was a loving wife, mother, and sister, whose family meant the world to her. She had a sassy, spunky, direct personality, which made others laugh and smile. Sarah will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Sarah is preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert V. Thompson; her parents, Logan Marshall and Rose Mae "Back" Marshall; and 8 siblings, Andrew Marshall, Anderson Marshall, David Marshall, Garrett Marshall, Mae Henson, Genoia Kinniard, Connie Strong, and Stella Caudill.
Left to cherish her memory, Sarah is survived by her 2 children, Neil Robin Thompson, and Mark Timothy Thompson; 4 grandchildren, Jessica (Thompson) Souders, Timothy Thompson, Jacob Thompson, and Luke Thompson; 1 great-grandchild, Cooper Souders; and a host of extended family and close friends.
