Selma Brown

Selma "Sally" Frances Brown, returned to her Maker peacefully in her sleep on Sunday May 3, 2015 at Golden Living Nursing Home, St. Matthews. Sally was born September 3, 1922 to Robert and Mary A. Boegel. Sally was one of ten children and the first sibling in her family to obtain a high school diploma at Shawnee High School for Girls in 1941. In November of 1940, she met John William Brown of Gleanings, KY and fell in love. Following Johnny's service in the Navy during WWII, they married on Valentine's Day in 1946.
Sally was a bookkeeper for various companies; including Blue Cross/Blue Shield and the office of Dr. Harold Eskind, M.D. as well a teacher instructional assistant with the Shelby County Public School system's Migrant Program. She was an avid seamstress, quilter, and homemaker.
Sally volunteered countless hours for the KY Extension Homemakers Association and was a founding member and President of the Morning Glories Club. She served as the President of the Clayvillage Club in Shelbyville, and taught numerous classes in quilting, sewing, crocheting, and knitting.
She was a life-long Methodist, most recently a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Shelbyville. She served as President of the St. Mark United Methodist Missionary Society.
Sally was the beloved mother of four children; Sally Adams (Wally), Cathy Cook (Jimmy), Mike Brown (Jane), and Jennifer Dolores Brown (Meagan). She had seven grandchildren; Michael Adams (Kristie), Alex Brown (Monica), Rachel Adams Apthorpe (Andrew), Greg Cook (Sarah), Andy Brown (Julie), Dr. Taylor Brown (Chelsea), and Matthew Cook. She was also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren; Nick, Abby, Aléjandro, Mia, Maximo, Rex, Ridley, Roan, Rafe, Austin, Ashton, Cooper, and Fin. She will also be missed by sisters; Marian Wegenast and Nancy Quaack.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Johnny, daughter Sally Lynne Adams, 3 brothers, and 4 sisters.
The family would like to thank the staff of Golden Living Nursing Home for the wonderful care provided to their mother over the past 18 months.
