Burnette, Shirley Mae (Taber),
82, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2015 in the hospice care unit at Norton's Women's Pavilion in Louisville, Kentucky. Shirley was born in Louisville, Kentucky on September 3, 1933. She was a graduate of DuPont Manual High School and the Spencerian School of Business. She was retired from the Eastern Livestock Company. She was an ardent fan of the University of Louisville.
She was a devout Christian, a Baptist, and a devoted church member. She was married on December 28, 1953. Next month she and her husband would have been married for 62 years. Shirley was an active member of Carlisle Ave. Baptist Church until her husband was ordained as a minister in 1960. She became a devoted pastor's wife and beloved fellow minister both in civilian pastorates and the United States Air Force chaplaincy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Adrian and Lillian Taber.
Shirley was a loving and cherished wife, companion, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and a precious friend to many. Survivors include her husband Rev. Robert Burnette, daughter Patricia, son John (Vicki Jo), son David (Beth), grandsons Michael Burnette and Stephen (Sophia) Langham, granddaughters Alyson and Paige, two great-grandchildren, Brent and Lillian Langham, and one sister, Sandra (Sandy) Lee Powell.
Funeral services for Mrs. Burnette will be held at 11:00 am on Friday in the Southern Chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son, 3601 Taylor Blvd. with interment to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
