SETTLE, SHIRLEY ANN SHIELDS, was born December 30, 1928, in Louisville to Thomas L. Shields Sr. and Florence Bishop Shields. She entered eternal peace on April 8, 2013.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, three brothers, her husbands, Joseph M. Blandford, Sr. and Maurice W. Settle, and an infant grandson Sean Spencer Blandford. She is survived by her children, Judith Ann Hoffmann (Garnet), Joseph M. Blandford Jr., M.D., and David B. Blandford (Becky), as well as Diane Duffy (Mike) and Paul Settle (Leta). Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas L. Shields Jr. and John H. Shields of Houston, TX, and Dorothy M. Evans, her best friend of more than 60 years. She was also blessed with a large extended family, including her sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. In pursuing her interest in genealogy, she was an active member of the First Families of Kentucky and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, serving as the Chaplain for their Kentucky Chapters. She also was active in the Huguenot Society of Kentucky and the Spencer County Historical and Genealogical Society.
Visitation for Shirley will be on Friday, April 12, 2013, from 3-8 p.m. at the Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road. A celebration of Shirley's life will be conducted 10 a.m. at the funeral home with interment to follow on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy and support be directed to the American Lung Association or the memorial fund at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
