Timothy Kern

December 25, 1925 — August 9, 2013

KERN, TIMOTHY JOHN, 87, of Louisville, passed away on Friday, at Faith's Assisted Care in Borden, IN. He was a POW (captured during the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944), World War II, recipient of a Purple Heart, POW medals, and a lifetime member of American Legion Post 220 and VFW Post 2921. He worked for Lincoln Income Life for 15 years and was top salesman nationally for three years. He was a member of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church. He was the son of the late George and Elizabeth (Anglum) Kern and was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Corinne E. (Schramm) Kern. Also preceded in death by son, Melvin J. Kern Jr.; siblings, Melvin J. Kern (KIA WWII), Marie Miller, June Shircliff, George Kern; and nephew, Kevin Shircliff. Survived by son, Timothy L. Kern (Karen), granddaughters (He was affectionately known as "Pop" to all grandchildren), Terri Vessels (David), Christy Storm (Jason), Stephanie Evans (Chad); 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the VA for many years of care, especially Home Base Health Care (VA Hospital), Hosparus of Louisville, and our special angel Faith. His funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Ratterman Grand Chapels, 4832 Cane Run Road, with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
