Blevens, Uless Alfred "Al" View/Sign Guest Book BLEVENS, ULESS ALFRED "AL" passed away Saturday, August 30, 2008 at his home in Louisville. Al was born on February 28, 1926 in Hardin County, KY. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Leona Kerrick Blevens; parents, William Allen and Cora Blakely Blevens; sisters Edna Chamberlain, Lucille Cobb, Mable Murray and Margie Reynolds; and brothers, Lee Edward and W.C. Blevens. Al joined the United States Air Force at 17 and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. In 1946, Al returned to Louisville and resumed his position at Cochran Foil Products, which later became part of Anaconda, ARCO, and ALCAN. Al retired from ALCAN in 1986 after 43 years of service as a tool and die maker, Production Manager and finally Manager of Engineering. After retirement, Al traveled the world as a consultant for ALCAN. In 1996, Al married Brenda Crane in Fort Collins, CO and they had 12 wonderful years together. Al never met a stranger, always had a funny joke and a big smile on his face. He was a man of many talents and was an avid golfer. He spent many hours after retirement in his woodworking shop at home making many special "treasures" for his family and friends. Because of his name "Al" the grandchildren called him their "Papaw Hoo Hoo." His loving family and friends will dearly miss him. He was a longtime member of Shively Christian Church and a Kentucky Colonel. Survivors include loving wife Brenda Crane Blevens; son, Steve Blevens (Pam) of Louisville; daughter Debbie Orwick (Don) of Ft. Collins; stepdaughters, Terri C. Hixenbaugh (Steve) and Lisa C. Holehan (Greg), of Louisville, and Amy C. Hardin (Brad), of Inman, SC; grandchildren, Bryony Rowe (Rob), Britony Orwick, Bethony Warner (Kevin), Brandony Lesser (Brian), Ashley Blevens, Erin Ernspiker, Kelsey, Jacob and Paige Holehan, Audrey, Erin, Emma, and Ellie Hixenbaugh, and Lindsey and Lexie Hardin; great-grandsons, Bryson Orwick and Avery Rowe; three sisters Mary Butler of Shelbyville, KY, Katie Bowlds (Bob) of Ferndale, MI, and Marie Tucker, LaGrange, KY; sisters-in-law Juanita Blevens and Millie Kerrick Harned (Russell) of Louisville, Frankie Kerrick Spena (Darryl) of Belton, MO, and Kathryn Kerrick Troop of South Bend, IN. His funeral will be 2 p.m Wednesday at Shively Christian Church, 1822 Kendall Lane, with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation is Tuesday, noon-8 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home - Jeffersontown, 9318 Taylorsville Road and after noon Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Shively Christian Church.
