Allen, Velma Mae (Wenz) View/Sign Guest Book ALLEN, VELMA MAE (WENZ), 88, went home to be with her heavenly Father Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at her home. She was a retired secretary of Belknap Hardware and a member of Buechel Baptist Church. She is survived by her sons, Bill (Phyllis) and Marvin Allen (Louise); daughter, Nancy Clemons; grandchildren, Lee, Malynda, Marty and Danielle; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Wanda Simon. Her funeral will be at noon Thursday at J. E. Ratterman & Son, 7336 Southside Dr. with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens-West. Visitation 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday; after 10 a.m. Thursday. He was a graduate of Centre College of Kentucky, the Union Theological Seminary, is a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law. He was a professor of business law at Auburn University and the University of Alabama. Mr. Allen is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martha M. Allen of Fairhope, AL; sons, William H. Allen III (Vinessa) of Martinsburg, WV, and Ellis S. Allen (Katherine) of Fairhope, AL; daughter, Mary-Beth Allen Layfield of Fairhope, AL; sisters, Elisabeth Allen Young of Louisville and Frances Allen Terry of Louisville; and seven grandchildren. Allen, William Lee "Bill" ALLEN, WILLIAM LEE "BILL," 70, of Louisville passed away Monday, August 27, 2007. Bill retired from the carpenter shop at Brown & Williamson. He was a skilled craftsman that took tremendous pride in his work. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, a coin-carrying member of the Fraternal Order of Cod Packers, and a Deputy and grateful client of Barrister Stephen H. Miller. Bill's passions were horses and poker. He was a self-proclaimed expert handicapper that never saw a race he couldn't pick. As an owner, his stable included the mare Lassie's Favor and the infamous gelding Don't Care. He also earned his training license and later retired undefeated. He was also a renowned poker player, earning recognition in the casinos of Las Vegas and throughout the south-end of Louisville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Lottie and siblings Jimmy, Virginia and Barbara. His true loves were his three grandchildren, Samuel David Miller, Sophie Marie Allen and Sadie Elizabeth Allen. He is also survived by his children, Terri Allen (John Boc) and Tony Allen (Lynn). Surviving siblings are Junior, Jackie, Donnie, Marsha and Linda. A celebration in honor of Bill's life will be held between 3-8 p.m. Thursday at 9707 U.S. Hwy. 42 "in Sutherland," Prospect, KY. His ashes will be laid to rest per his wishes. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Survivors include sons, Harlan (Mary) Allen of Bloomington, Benny (Mary), Marvin (Carol), Wayne (Linda), and Larry (Carrie) Allen all of Milltown; sisters, June (Herman) Summers of Milltown, Norma (Ray) Jenkins of Marengo, and Lorene Batman of Seymour, and 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and two great -great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Milltown Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Constance Seligman of Morris Township, NJ; her son-in-law, Paul; and her granddaughter, Emily. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Keneseth Israel Cemetery, 719 Locust Lane. Arrangements have been entrusted to Herman Meyer & Son.
