Detroy, Virginia M.,
of Louisville, died on November 17, 2015, following a brief illness.
She was a graduate of the University of Iowa and the University of Louisville. She taught English for 21 years in Jefferson County Schools, first at Valley High School and then at Butler High School. She loved classical music, animals, art, and travel.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 55 years, Rev. Karl M. Detroy.
She is survived by her brother, John (Marilyn) Wickenkamp; children, Michael (Wendy) Detroy and Sheila (Patrick) Miller; grandchildren, Jonathan Detroy, Amy Detroy, and Eric (Brandy) Miller; great-grandson, Benjamin Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be Saturday, November 21, 2015 3:30 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway, with entombment in Louisville Memorial Gardens, West. Visitation will be 1:30-3:30 p.m. before the service.
Memorials may be directed to St. Stephen United Church of Christ, Louisville, or the University of Louisville School of Music.
The family thanks the doctors, nurses, and staff at Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, Georgetown Manor, and Hosparus for their compassionate care.
