MARTIN, HERBERT, 99, of LaGrange, died Saturday, March 19, 2011 at home with family.
He was born October 18, 1911 to the late James H. and Cora Belle (Borden) Martin. He was a deacon at Friendship Separate Baptist Church and former music leader. He was a mechanic, retiring from Kentucky Transport Co. in the sixties. He taught at music schools across Kentucky and Indiana.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Janie Priddy Martin, brothers Roy and Elvin Martin; sisters, Gertie Reynolds, Nannie Holton, Mable Compton, Ora Compton and Elsie Smith; grandson, Todd Martin.
He is survived by his sons, Jerome (Barbara) and Leo (Susan); his daughter, Cheryl Burnett (Doug); grandchildren, Brian, Jill, Brittany and Beau; brother, Woodrow Martin; sister, Opal Hendricks; many great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and friends.
He loved the Lord Jesus Christ, his family, his church and southern gospel music. He never met a stranger and always looked for the best in everyone.
His funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Keenan's Funeral Home, 4724 Dixie Highway (corner of Rockford Ln.), with burial to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation is Monday from 3-8 p.m. at Keenan's.
