Willard Akins

Willard Thurman Akins, 86, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on August 29th, 2022. Many knew Willard as Thurman. Thurman was born August 17th, 1936, in Muhlenburg County, Kentucky.

He is preceded in death by his two children, Loretta Akins and Michael Akins; and a sister, Laura Altenmose.

Thurman is survived by his loving wife of many years, Helen Akins; his children, Debra Skees (David) and Fay Gaither; his two sisters, Eunice Akins and Mary Jane Ash; his two brothers, Milton Akins and Dale Akins; and six grandchildren, Kristi Davis, Melissa Hendrix, Steven Skees, Christopher Gaither, Michael Gaither, and Jamie Renee Dawson.

Thurman retired from Pillsbury after many years. He had a love for buying things and would attend flea markets quite often. He was a simple man; he loved his western style and good old country music.  Thurman will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Willard Thurman Akins will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at 1:00pm, at Louisville Memorial Gardens Funeral Home West, 4400 Dixie Highway. Interment will immediately follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens Cemetery West. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 5, 2022, from 2:00pm to 7:00pm.
